Most of the materials powering today’s technologies were discovered decades ago. Humans have only ever discovered about 50,000 to 100,000 crystalline materials out of a search space of at least hundreds of millions. The opportunity space is vast, and conventional methods can’t unlock it. The combination of AI and deep domain expertise enables discovery of the next breakthrough material, validated in the real world.

The team behind alqem.

At the head of it is Hanh Nguyen, herself a researcher with 15 years of experience in the chemical and energy industry, bringing the strategic, operational, and commercial thinking needed to turn research into a company. Tiago Cerqueira, CTO and physicist, co-built Alexandria, the largest and most widely used open materials database. Milan Allan, LMU Professor, adds an experimental physicist’s perspective, shaped by years of academic research.
